How to use tie downs to secure your board
Today we'll show you how to safely secure your surfboard or SUP to roof racks using a set of Surfica tie downs.
Always use a board bag to avoid dings
Firstly, we recommend always using a board bag to store and transport your board. Most dings happen outside of the water, so let's start by placing your board bag deck side down with the fins facing up and towards the front of the vehicle. This protects the board and reduces wind resistance.
Where to place the straps
Place the buckle under the side of the rack, then throw both loose ends over the board. Walk around and loop it under the other side of the roof rack and bring it back over the board.
Thread the strap through the buckle and pull it tight. Make sure it's firm but not crushing the board, especially soft boards, as too much torque can damage the rail of the board.
Repeat the same process with the second strap near the tail. Tuck away any loose ends securely so they don't flap while driving.
Make sure it's secure
Finally, give the board a firm shake. If it doesn't move, you're good to go.
That's it. Quick, safe and secure. You're ready to hit the road.
