The 5 Sugars, is one of the most versatile surfboards we have created, its modern rocker and higher volume makes paddling and wave catching a dream.
It has a 2+1 fin set up, and the slightly rolled Vee bottom through the back half makes for smooth flowing rail to rail transitions. A flatter midsection makes for fast trimming, while the concave in the front half comes into play with long extended nose rides in all sections of the wave!
Maybe you are a short boarder that wants a board for smaller days but doesn’t want a beast and still wants the ability to roll off the top and have plenty of speed. Or perhaps you are a longboarder that wants a board to nose ride and to turn with plenty of speed in those waves that aren’t your perfect point set up. Then this is the board for you.
OUTLINE: This smooth and balanced outline has a slightly pulled in tail for drive and acceleration in turns and its fuller voluptuous nose helps with extended nose riding in all sections of the wave.
ROCKER: With an emphasis on being an all-rounder the Five Sugars has a medium rocker with a flat panel through the midsection which makes this board paddle with ease and flows through those dead sections with minimal effort. A slight lift in the nose makes those late take offs easier and also helps with amazing nose riding, while the slight lift in the tail makes for a nice drive and smooth tight arcs through your turns.
CONTOURS: Subtle yet effective, the longer deeper concave in the nose creates lift while hanging those toes over. Its flatter midsection creates speed and trim and the slightly rolled vee through the back half makes for ease of rail to rail transitions.
DECK LAYUP: 2 x 6oz 1 x 6oz Deck Patch
BOTTOM LAYUP: 1 x 6oz cloth 1 x 6oz Fin Patch
PERFORMANCE: As an all-rounder, it paddles amazing, trims with accelerated speed and turns wherever you want it to go on the wave face. With a fuller nose outline, the ease of nose riding will have you hanging them with the best. From flat to double overhead this is one best all-round surfboards you can have in your quiver! Enjoy!

Had one in New Zealand for quite awhile and loved it. Now in Waikiki it loves these waves and I still love it. This one seems a little thinner but is still an easy paddler, gets into waves easily, and is just a pleasure to ride.

The board arrives perfect and it rides beautifully. I love that there is no styrofoam in the packaging all paper so great. the 3rd party delivery was not great, I had to contact them to schedule the delivery, but it went well once I contacted them.

I love love love my new board. So smooth and so much fun. Compared to other long boards which I have ridden in the past this one just glides me through the water. Fantastic manoeuvrability making it easier for me to practice a few more tricks.

Bought this board as I needed a good paddler to get me back in the water after 6 months out with a serious arm injury. I have now had it for 3 months and have surfed it in all conditions from knee high to well overhead. First impressions were how smoothly it rode through the water, and glided effortlessly across flat spots. Catching waves was so easy it felt like cheating. It has heaps of speed, turns really nicely of the top and bottom, a great nose rider , and even good in the barrel. I never know riding a Mal could be so much fun.
I believe It is the equal of many big name Mal brands at far less of a price.

So I went from riding a log to riding a five sugars and it honestly felt like I was back on a short board.. The speed is outstanding.. The lines you can draw are powerful and you can beat section after section.. This board holds beautifully in hollow waves and barrel rides superbly.. I only surf when it's head high or double over head.. This board catches waves so easy and is forgiving if you kook up a bit. I've managed a few round house cutbacks which felt great.. I might even get a similar board in the 8 foot range because this board has given me so much confidence to start carving again... 5 stars

This board allows me to surf on days i usually couldn’t and catch more waves that anyone else too! It is so easy to catch waves and hold a nice line. Only issue is you can’t nose ride the smaller size easily

My favorite board! Catches waves like a champ. Setup with a 9.5 True Ames (Josh Faberow) fin. The tail holds nicely in the pocket. I’ve been riding a 9′ square tail and switching to this rounded pin tail has been refreshing and fun! Just a few waves in and I could immediately feel the stability for walking up and down the board. Contours are spot on. Can’t say enough about this board. It’s just fun, fun, fun!
